Most of what opened along Route 30 in Hempfield Township this year moved into a building another business had left. DICK'S House of Sport took the Sears space, which had sat empty since 2019. Plaza Azteca took the IronRock Tap House building. SpectroDolce reopened in the storefront Main Street Sweets used to have. In July, Bank of America was fitting out the old TGI Fridays at Hempfield Square.
So the corridor isn't getting bigger. It's being reshuffled inside the buildings it already has. That shapes what you'll find there this fall, and why at least one familiar storefront behind the mall may end up as the next empty space.
Here is each 2026 opening, matched to the business that left the building first.
| Location | Previous occupant | New occupant | Opened |
|---|---|---|---|
| Westmoreland Mall, former anchor | Sears, closed 2019 | DICK'S House of Sport | July 28, 2026 |
| 5306 Lincoln Highway | IronRock Tap House, closed mid-2025 | Plaza Azteca | May 29, 2026 |
| Westmoreland Mall, lower level | Main Street Sweets, closed in March | SpectroDolce Confectionery | May 29, 2026 |
| Hempfield Square, 6220 Route 30 | TGI Fridays, closed late 2024 | Bank of America | Target was "before year-end" as of July 2026 |
The one clear exception is Sheetz. It opened its fourth Greensburg-area location at 6090 State Route 30 on May 14, 2026, according to WPXI. The coverage doesn't say what was on that site before.
The other anchor building at the mall had already been reused before this year. CBL Properties, which owns and manages Westmoreland Mall, lists Live! Casino Pittsburgh in the former Bon-Ton building. With House of Sport now in the Sears space, both of the former department-store anchors identified in this year's coverage have tenants again.
House of Sport didn't add a DICK'S to Hempfield. It merged the chain's local stores into one. The Hempfield Pointe Plaza store closed in January 2025. TribLive reported on July 8 that the new store would absorb the standalone DICK'S at 5280 Route 30, behind the mall, and that a sign on that store's door said it would close sometime in July. No later report we found confirms the final day there. CBL hadn't immediately commented on what comes next for that building.
Inside the mall, the store offers things the old format didn't have. TribLive described a floor-to-ceiling rock wall at $15 for 15 minutes, a batting cage, a golf simulator, a cleats section, a trading-card section, and an equipment services center for bicycles and gear. DICK'S runs 39 House of Sport stores nationwide. This is only the second in Western Pennsylvania, after the one that opened at Ross Park Mall in 2024. Until this summer, a Hempfield family wanting this format had to drive to the North Hills.
TribLive also talked with Cheryl Guzik on opening week. She worked 20 years at the mall's Macy's, which was Kaufmann's before that. Her husband, Jay, called the new store "an extension" that "will probably keep the mall open a little longer."
The store's address is 5256 Route 30, and the mall directory lists it on Level 2.
SpectroDolce has been at Westmoreland Mall before. Bryan and Angie Kiger founded the confectionery in 2019 at Monroeville Mall. They opened a second shop at Westmoreland Mall in 2021, and it stayed a few years before closing. It reopened on the lower level on May 29 and held a ribbon-cutting with the Westmoreland County Chamber of Commerce on June 18.
The storefront has its own handoff story. Main Street Sweets ran a candy and milkshake shop in that space. After it closed in March, SpectroDolce bought its recipes, including the specialty milkshakes. If you remember a milkshake from that spot, you may still be able to order it.
The menu covers chocolates, candy, milkshakes and Liege waffles. The shop's purpose is employment. SpectroDolce hires adults on the autism spectrum and gives each associate a work plan of about six to 12 months, built around the job they want next. Achieving True Self, a behavioral health provider, has owned the business since late 2024. The shop says every $10 spent pays for an hour of employment for one associate, according to the Latrobe Bulletin.
Plaza Azteca's opening took months. The sale of the former IronRock Tap House building was still pending in early April. The restaurant opened on May 29, 2026. The building at 5306 Lincoln Highway, just outside the mall, had been dark since IronRock closed in mid-2025. That's less than a year empty, a short gap compared with the seven years the Sears space waited.
A short drive east, the former TGI Fridays at Hempfield Square has followed the same path. The restaurant closed in late 2024. WPXI reported on July 23 that Bank of America was fitting out the building as its first Westmoreland County branch, with an ATM drive-through and a goal of opening before year-end. As of early October, we found no report confirming it has opened, so year-end is still a target.
The new tenants are also starting to fill the mall's schedule. The October lineup shows how much of it now comes from the stores that moved into old anchor space, alongside the long-running community events. Here is what's posted on the mall's events page for the rest of 2026:
Trading cards come up twice in that list, with the GatorJJ3 trade night and the collectible show, and House of Sport now has its own card section upstairs. TribLive's opening-week story included a customer who bought trading cards at the new store. For a collector, the mall now offers more of this in one place than it did a year ago.
Two Halloween events come from the former anchor buildings. DICK'S is in the old Sears and Live! Casino is in the old Bon-Ton. Both department-store buildings now host events of their own.
The mall hasn't posted its 2026 Santa arrival date yet, so last year's schedule doesn't apply. Regular hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. No special holiday hours are listed so far.
The standalone DICK'S at 5280 Route 30 is the building to watch. If its July closure went ahead, a large retail space now sits right behind the mall, freed up by a store that moved into the mall in front of it. The other 2026 openings followed gaps of very different lengths. Sears sat empty from 2019 to 2026. IronRock's building reopened less than a year after it closed. If Bank of America hits its year-end target, the former TGI Fridays will have sat empty for about two years.
Changes on Route 30 also shape how homes along the corridor are valued. A filled storefront, a closed one, or a new bank branch can all affect what's convenient for a given street.
